All Kinds of Water Baby

Harriet had her first visit to the beach the other night - can you believe that it has been so mild in Perth that it's taken until now for us to even venture down there? And even when we got there it was so windy and no-one was swimming, so I just popped Harry's feet in the water and watched Greta go crashing through the waves to emerge shivering but invigorated. Harriet seemed rather nonplussed by the image of supposedly neverending horizon, the spray of salt water hitting her face and the way her little feet kept plunging further below into the soft sand. Mind you we weren't down by the water for very long and resorted to sitting on the grass pretty quickly so there wasn't much of a chance to take it all in.

This photo shows you just exactly what Harry should have been doing on NYE. Instead she decided to be at her most contentious - staying awake from 8pm until 4am! She hasn't been like that since she was a proper little baby, so it was a shock to the system. Papa drove her around for an hour and kept up the care whilst I had a sleep since I had to work the next morning. She obviously wants to party on down but with old stick-in-the-muds like us for parents (read: over the festive season) she didn't get much of an option and had to resort to watching people try to get away with driving drunk after midnight.
The other big news in the house of HD is the foot. Move over fist because the foot is making big news. Everytime she's placed on her back now she'll start rocking her feet up towards her mouth until they can get as wedged in there as they can. It's pretty funny to watch and helps with taking nappies off but a bit of an impediment to trying to put one back on!

The other afternoon we were sitting back and decided to dangle our feet in the pool. It's still too cool to go swimming (I know those of you in Sydney and Brisbane find it impossible to believe at the moment) but Harriet seemed to enjoy dangling her feet too. In this photo she's leaning forward to have a feel of the water and try to hold it. She tries to hold the water coming out of the shower head too, it's very cute.

Speaking of water, she also has decided she is fascinated by me drinking my water from a glass. She has been gumming the bottom edge of the glass for a while now, so I gave her a little sip from the top and she loved it! She was grabbing the glass and greedily pushing her mouth to the lip in order to get more. She is going to LOVE it when we start solids at 6 months.
